Traditional Russian Diatonic Accordion Music of the Middle Volga Region (CD+DVD)

The Saratov diatonic button accordion, or Saratovskaya Garmonika, is the instrument of the Saratov Middle Volga region in Russia, and still very much in use today. The instrument got its name from the region and is played since the 1860s in this region only. This CD and DVD document soloists and ensembles performing on this remarkable instrument with its characteristic 'silvery' sound of the two accompanying bells. The top and bortím bass buttons of the Saratovskaya are linked to tiny metal hammers which can ring these bells for rhythmic accompaniment.
DVD – PAL (65 min.) +CD (75 min.)-set, digisleeve. Recordings and liner notes by Vyacheslav Shchurov and Bernard Kleikamp.
