In this new collaboration with Arion, the ensemble Fuoco e Cenere and its dynamic leader, Jay Bernfeld, present the first recording by the fine young tenor Mathieu Abelli, who from autumn 2006 (20 September) until at least summer 2007, will be singing the title role in the opera Le Chanteur de Mexico by Francis Lopez at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris, where it was premièred in 1951. Mathieu Abelli has chosen to present a programme covering 400 years of Neapolitan song, from the Baroque to the Romantic period. The result is both fresh and fascinating. The listener can but be impressed by this young singer's generosity and by the extent of his expressive capacities.
