‘Safar’ (meaning ‘Journey’) takes us to visit the villages of Rajasthan, in western India, with Latif Ahmed Khan as our guide, accompanied by the most talented nomadic musicians of Rajasthan. Produced at Jaipur, this is one of the finest recordings of Indian songs, with music that is colourful and festive, its roots delving deep down into the history of this land and of the nomadic peoples who have travelled its length and breadth, and who are said to be the ancestors of the Gypsies.
