Maintaining a healthy music career has appeared to be no trouble for Darius Rucker, from Hootie and the Blowfish to a very successful solo country career. His first country album LEARN TO LIVE, which debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts and gave him the title of first African American to have a solo # 1 in the Country charts since Charley Pride in 1983! He is also the first African American to win a “New Artist” award with the CMA’s, the show has been running for 43 years.
Charleston, SC 1966 (the title which pays tribute to one of Rucker's biggest influences, Radney Foster) is his second country album and it seems there is no stopping him. However, what Darius Rucker mostly feels these days is grateful . . . Grateful that the millions of fans that knew Rucker as the voice of Hootie & The Blowfish, the Grammy-winning group whose album CRACKED REAR VIEW sold more than 16 million copies, happily followed the singer/songwriter in his natural evolution to country music.
Rucker has always had a close kinship to country music and country artists. “Growing up in South Carolina, it was always around, always on the radio,” he says. “We talked about being a country band, and I just got outvoted! They also used to kid me about how I always was bringing them country songs that they had to turn into rock songs . . .” Therefore, moving into the country genre was not so much a big leap for Rucker as simply a slight shift in Rucker’s musical evolution.
Rolling Stone said, “ Rucker's rich baritone, sentimental ballads and bright hooks made him the most successful African-American country singer since Charley Pride”
This album also contains a bonus DVD called "Coming Home". A documentary style look at Darius Rucker's career featuring 7 live performances of songs from this album and Learn To Live. Running time for 'Coming Home' approx. 47 minutes.
